Differentiated / Cationic-Dyeable Polyester (CDP / ECDP / 易染色纤维)
Standard polyester (PET) is notoriously difficult to dye: its high crystallinity, hydrophobic surface, and lack of chemically reactive groups mean only disperse dyes work, and only at 130°C under pressure with carriers. Easy-dyeable polyester solves this by incorporating a sulfonated comonomer (typically sodium dimethyl isophthalate-5-sulfonate) into the PET chain during polymerization. The sulfonate groups act as dye receptors for cationic (basic) dyes, enabling brighter colors, lower dyeing temperatures (atmospheric, 100°C for ECDP), and the ability to achieve tone-on-tone and cross-dye effects — especially valuable in blends with wool (which is damaged by 130°C dyeing).
